Workshops, Historical Exhibits and Other Special Events

In addition to musical performances, the Antrim Celtic Celebration will host workshops, historical exhibits and other special events. As you check the schedule for the times and locations for all events, bear in mind that schedules can change at the last minute. Be sure to check for an updated schedule when you arrive at the festival.

Workshops

Beginning Genealogy Led by Ruth Quigley Wellner, a professional genealogist who specializes in Massachusetts and New England research, this workshop focuses on your first steps in beginning your own genealogical search.

Celtic Tree of Life A hands-on workshop that focuses on the Tree of Life, a motif that runs throughout much of Celtic art history. This motif became predominant in the Scottish Highlands from 1200 onward and was common on gravestones and high crosses. Participants in the workshop learn methods of drawing several simple variations on this motif, beginning with examples from the Book of Kells and working up to examples from MacKinnon's Cross and the Nerabolls Stones. Pencils and pens and paper will be provided.
History of Antrim, NH Led by Isabel Nichols, a member of the Antrim Historical Society who was raised in Antrim where her ancestry on both sides goes back to the 18th century.
Learn to Play Tin Whistle An introductory hands-on workshop led by Ryan Thomson (Captain Fiddle of Shake, Rattle and Bow), an accomplished music instructor, author, and full time professional musician. Tin whistles are required and can be purchased at the workshop.

Other Special Events

Children's Activities in Memorial Park Sponsored by the Grapevine and Antrim Recreation Dept./Friends of Recreation to be held from 11:00 to 1:00 and again from 2:00 to 4:00.
Contra Dancing Everyone is welcome to join in the fun of contra dancing, regardless of age or experience. Take this opportunity to experience the tunes of Old New England and the calls of Steve Zakon-Andersen -- Truly contra dance legends!
McGonagle School of Irish Dance Dynamic performances led by McGonagle School of Irish Dance will provide opportunities for the daring to try their own feet at Irish dancing.
Music Sessiuns with Ceol Eire Come bring your instruments to the Maplehurst Inn and join an Irish music sessiun with leaders Bill Thomas and Connie Patten of Ceol Eire. Bill, an excellent player and maker of uillean pipes, and Connie, an exceptional Irish fiddler, are veteran sessiun leaders.
Rynborn's Beer Garden Serving an assortment of beer and ale, including Harp and Bass throughout the afternoon.
Scotch Tasting at the Rynborn To be officiated by a representative from Dalmore Distilleries. Check in at the Rynborn after 3 p.m.
Spinning and Weaving Come see these demonstrations in the Antrim Town Hall throughout the day. Check the Town Hall on the day of the festival for times.
