Great Stone Face Committee Report ~

The committee’s first meeting was in September at the Bedford Public Library. We read a lot of books over the summer months. Now we will be reading what everyone else read with the addition of other titles that will be put onto the consideration list. If you would like to recommend a title, please email Adele (adeleb@derry.lib.nh.us). The committee would like to have input from other librarians. We know that many of you cannot come to the meetings, but we still like to find out what you are reading! The criteria for recommending a book is Writing Quality and Child Appeal for grades 4 – 6 with a copyright from 2003 to present. Hope to hear from you! One last item: GSF bookmarks and posters will be on sale at the conference. Thank you. Adele Boeske, Derry Public Library, Derry, NH

Intellectual Freedom Committee Report ~

The Intellectual Freedom Committee for CHILIS is working with the NHLA Intellectual Freedom Committee to do a program about dealing with newspapers/journalists for the next NHLA conference. I will not be attending CHILIS but wanted to let you know that the IF Committee is still doing things and, also, I sent something for the raffle. Thank you. Selina Cate, Thornton Public Library, Thorton, NH

Membership Committee Report ~ No chair at this time, so no report as such. Some information may be given at the Conference.

Nominating Committee Report ~ Report will be delivered at the Conference.

Summer Reading Program Committee Report ~

‘Treasure Reading’ generated a lot of enthusiasm this past summer and we hope that libraries across the state are ready for SRP 2007! The theme will be “Reading Road Trip U.S.A.” Think travel, transportation, American history, promotion of audio book collections, and of course taking those books on family vacations! Our artist is Julie Brillhart and she has created a whimsical, watercolor palette for the artwork. We will be separating materials ordering and T-shirt ordering this year. Materials will be ordered in February, and the T-shirts will be ordered in April. Thank you for all the evaluations that were submitted. The committee does look at them for ideas, suggestions and changes. Please submit any decorating ideas, bulletin boards, crafts, etc. for the SRP 2007 theme to Dale Gregory at dgregorymaxlib@comcast.net. This committee accepts new members anytime during the year. Thank you. Deb Hoadley, Plaistow Public Library, Plaistow, NH

There is a class on Juvenile Nonfiction Collection Development and one on Programming for Children. Both of these classes take place in November.

Directories: If you are looking for a puppeteer, a children's musician, or another type of presenter, you should check the following directory: http://www.state.nh.us/nhsl/training/modules/index.html. Inclusion in this directory does not signfy endorsement by the NH State Library. Also, I have compiled a list of children's authors and illustrators who do presentations in schools and libraries. You can find this directory at http://www.chilisnh.org/authors.html. If you have any suggestions of presenters to add to either directory, please contact me. Thank you.
