Even Start is a federally funded education program providing family-centered education to improve the literacy skills of all family members, increase children's academic success, and expand parental understanding and participation in their children's education.
The Four Components:
Early childhood Education

- Parents as Teachers: Home visiting, preschool, playgroups, Head Start, summer reading camp, and vocabulary enrichment.
- Adult Education:
- ABE and GED classes as well as tutoring, book discussions, journaling, assistance planning goals and solving problems through links to area services and community building with other parents.
- Parents-children learn together:
- Family dinners followed by workshops or classes, adventures through field trips, story times and shared reading together.

- Parenting:
- Participate in reading strategy workshops, receive language and child development information, benefit from time to connect with other parents.

Families are helped to reach goals through home visits using "Parents as Teachers", a nationally recognized child development curriculum for young children.
Even Start offers:
- Flexible Scheduling: With home visits as well as other program components.
- Support: Through classes, workshops, childcare, transportation or other identified needs.
- FREE participation to those who are eligible (a family must have at least one eligible parent and one child).
