The Redwall series features not human characters but mice, who reside in Redwall Abbey in Mossflower wood. In book one, Redwall, Redwall is invaded by an army of rats lead by the evil Cluny, young mouse Matthias must become a warrior. Matthias sets out on a journey to save Redwall and find the sword and armor of Martin the Warrior, the Redwall Abbey founder. This story is full of action, adventure and discovery, in which a little mouse becomes a big hero. The series continues with more adventures of the Redwall mice and their battle against evil to protect their home.

Although the characters in this series are not human they have very human qualities. The story features the popular theme of an underdog who triumphs; and the more serious themes of death and the wants for revenge. The Redwall series is action-packed with intense battle scenes.
