Alternative Reality Romances

Tall, Dark and Hungry
by Lynsay Sands

Two of the three handsome vampiric Argeneau brothers have found true love, Etienne, the youngest, with coroner Rachel, Lucern, the eldest, with editor Kate. Even their sister, Lissianna has found her one true love. But what about Bastien? The middle brother has no time for romance. He runs the family’s vast business empire and has long become accustomed to the idea that he will never fall in love. His mother fears he will be a bachelor forever, which, for an immortal, is a very long time.

And then he meets Terri. She’s flown to New York City from England to help her best friend Kate plan her wedding to Bastien’s brother Lucern. She doesn’t know he’s a vampire, but that’s only the beginning of their troubles. She’s a widow, mourning her late husband and afraid to become close to someone again, and because of his unique ‘condition’, she’s convinced that he has a life-threatening illness and desperately tries to fight off any attraction she feels for him. Can Bastien and his meddling family convince Terri to love again?

The story is fast paced with lots of humorous situations and misunderstandings. There is a strong female character, and a host of unusual and fun secondary characters who enjoy meddling in the lives of the main characters. This is the third novel in the series, but the reader doesn’t have to read the first two to understand this one. A fun, fast, romantic read with flawed but interesting characters.

Sex and the Single Vampire
by Katie MacAlister

The last time we saw dishy vampire author Christian Johann Dante, he had been disappointed in love. The woman he thought was his Beloved, Joy, had turned out to be in love with someone else. But she'd promised him that she wouldn't rest until she found his true Beloved, the woman he was meant to be with forever. A little over a year later, American Allegra Tellford, a summoner of poltergeists, ghosts and demon lords, shows up in London hoping to summon anything so she won't get fired. She stumbles across Christian  and their relationship starts off on the wrong foot, but Joy is convinced Allegra is the one and sets out to convince the reluctant lovebirds that she's right.

In the middle of this romantic mess, Allegra stumbles again, this time into a plot by a sinister paranormal organization bent on gaining power through rather unsavory channels, and, with her enterage of quirky ghosts and one sexy vampire, she's determined to stop them. Can Christian help her? Can he convince her that she is his Beloved? Can they stop fighting long enough to discover true love?

The novel is  witty and humorous, with lots of dialog. The interaction between Allegra and Christian is very fun and romantic. Allegra is an appealing character, flawed but funny, with a strong backbone and inner strength. It's a fast read with a lot of action and a lot of paranormal goings-on in one of the most haunted cities in the world, London.
