James A. Tuttle was born in Antrim in 1841, lived all his life here, and died in 1905. He left his residual estate to the town of Antrim for the purchase of a site for, and the building and maintenance of, the James A. Tuttle Library.

Antrim is a compact, quiet town named for a county in Northern Ireland. It was incorporated in 1777, and sturdy Scotch-Irish settlers established a Presbyterian church here in 1788.
